This is Darren‘s first literary work! Darren’s brother was the first police officer in the state of Florida to die as a result of Covid-19. As a way to commemorate his brothers memory and grieve such a great loss, Darren invites us into that deep trauma. This is a story that runs deeper than the pain brought from a pandemic. There’s a cry that’s birthed from crisis. The media was only able to scratch the surface as there was so much more depth to the beloved Deputy. This is a narrative that will bring healing to hurting hearts. This book is the end of a chapter that needs much closure. It’s a story about how love bridged the chasm between a conservative evangelical preacher and an openly gay police officer.
We believe this book is only the beginning of deep ministry work that will impact the lives of many! Our aspiration is to release a study guide to accompany this book for healthy small group engagement and dialogue. Darren is also available to come speak on the many issues that come to surface in the book. Contact us to book Darren for a speaking engagement or workshop.

Here’s what others already have said about the book thus far…..
“I started it and couldn’t put it down. I just finished with tears in my eyes. Many of the things you communicated in this book is where God has shown me to live my life as a Christian. I, too, went through the growing process through my walk in the last 25+ years. Hearing your heart, how you got there, and how you handled the differences gave me confirmation and more determination that this is how a Christ Follower should live. Thank you for sharing yours and Shannon’s story. I know it is going to touch so many lives! I also know this is a trauma you would prefer to not have come your way, but God is using it for His glory through your obedience.”
“Thank you for writing and sharing your story. Amazing how many situations, struggles and personal convictions parallel our lives. Your presentation was clearly from the heart, easy to read, intellectually stimulating and will leave many pondering in deep thought”
“I just read this book in a couple of hours. It is fantastic! A love story of two brothers! One brother a conservative Christian Pastor with very strong fundamental Biblical beliefs and another brother who as an openly gay police officer was the face of the LGBTQ+ community in the BSO Department. Darren lost his beloved brother due to Covid-19 and shares this story ! Christians, should definitely read it! But I also think it would be eye opening to those who have felt marginalized by “The Church.” It would give you an understanding of the growth process of Christians and why many Christians make severe mistakes in their immature passion as new Christians.”
